Our Promise

At Velvet Outlaw, we believe skincare should be as natural, effective, and nurturing as the earth itself. That’s why we source our tallow from local, multi-generational family farms that takes pride in happy animals and healthy soil. Their rotational grazing methods, GMO-free grass pastures, and commitment to animal welfare mean our tallow starts with the best foundation: ethical and nutrient-dense care.

Our tallow is crafted in-house, right here in Kitchener, Ontario, using a meticulous rendering process. We render the tallow four times; ensuring a perfect balance: impurities are gone, but all those skin-loving vitamins (like A, D, E, and K) remain intact. Many others over-render their tallow, stripping it of its goodness...but not here.

About the Founder

Hey, my name is Mwenda and I started this journey out of frustration with commercial skincare, filled with false promises and products that didn't work and were filled with harmful chemicals meant to keep customers sick. When I discovered tallow, I was skeptical at first, but after seeing the incredible transformation in my own skin, I knew I was onto something real.

From there, I decided to take matters into my own hands...literally. I started crafting my own tallow cream, diving into the traditions of my ancestors, and I fell in love with the process. The results spoke for themselves, and soon, friends and family were begging for more.

Their stories are why I do this:

  • A new mom finally cleared her stubborn postpartum acne.
  • A friend with hormonal imbalances stopped dreading period breakouts.
  • Deep foot cracks healed after years of failed high-end creams.
  • A welder’s rough, dry hands became soft enough for his wife to hold again.

I realized this wasn’t just skincare...it was life-changing.

FAQ's

What makes tallow so effective for skincare?

Tallow’s fatty acid profile is rich in stearic acid and oleic acid andmimics the natural lipids in your skin. This bioidentical structure allows your skin to recognize tallow immediately, absorbing it deeply to repair, restore, and protect from the inside out. It’s the ultimate natural moisturizer!

Is this the same tallow people use for cooking?

Cooking tallow is typically rendered once (sometimes twice) which leaves gritty particles that are fine for cooking but would feel weird in your skincare. So tallow used for skin care is usually rendered multiple times and finely filtered to remove any of those particles aswel as to remove the smell that's often times found in cooking tallow but not in skincare tallow.

Is tallow safe for acne-prone or oily skin?

Yes! Tallow is non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores. Instead, it works with your skin to balance oil production, soothe inflammation, and even help with acne, thanks to its nourishing vitamins and anti-inflammatory properties.

What benefits can I expect from using tallow skincare?

✨ Deep hydration without greasiness or clogged pores

✨ Nourished, repaired skin thanks to vitamins A, D, E, and K

✨ Strengthened skin barrier to lock in moisture and defend against environmental damage

✨ Soothed inflammation for conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and acne

✨ Reduced redness, dryness, and irritation

Why is tallow better than plant-based oils?

While plant oils are great, they lack the bioidentical structure that tallow provides. Tallow mimics your skin’s natural oils, allowing it to penetrate deeply, repair damage, and lock in hydration more effectively than plant oils alone.

Why don’t big beauty brands use tallow?

Big skincare companies can’t replicate what nature perfected. They focus on cheap, synthetic ingredients because they’re easy to mass-produce and patent. Tallow is natural, sustainable, and incredibly effective...but it doesn’t fit their profit-driven model.

Does tallow smell like beef?

Properly rendered tallow, like ours, has only a faint, clean scent. We also enhance it with essential oils, giving our products a fresh and revitalizing fragrance.

Can tallow help with skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis?

Absolutely. Tallow is deeply nourishing and anti-inflammatory, making it perfect for soothing irritation, redness, and dryness caused by eczema, psoriasis, or other sensitive skin conditions.

How do I use tallow cream?

A little goes a long way! Gently massage a small amount onto clean, dry skin. Use it on your face, hands, body...anywhere that needs deep hydration and repair.

Why is grass-finished tallow important?

Grass Fed means the cows have had access to eat grass ASWELL as grains. Grass Finished means the cow ONLY eats grass

Grass-fed and grass-finished tallow is more nutrient-dense and free from toxins like antibiotics and hormones. It contains higher levels of skin-loving vitamins and fatty acids compared to conventionally raised tallow.

Think about it on a deeper level, though... most cows are fed GMO grains, which means there's a high likelihood of glyphosate, which is then digested into the cow and absorbed into its organs and fat, which then would go into your skin. Your skin is the largest organ, and it absorbs EVERYTHING you put onto it and into the bloodstream.

How is your tallow sourced?

We source our tallow from grass-fed, grass-finished cows raised on regenerative farms. These animals are free from antibiotics and hormones, grazing on GMO-free pastures. This ensures the tallow is clean, nutrient-dense, and ethically produced.

Can I use tallow on my face?

Definitely! Tallow is lightweight yet deeply hydrating, making it perfect for facial use. It helps reduce wrinkles, dryness, and redness while leaving your skin smooth and glowing.

You can use both products on your face and body, actually.
